Frequently Asked Questions
What is the cheapest eSIM for Germany?
The cheapest Germany eSIM on MobiMatter costs $3.49 for 2 GB, valid for 15 days. Prices come live from 7 vetted providers and change often; the price on this page is the current one.
Is it worth getting an eSIM for Germany?
For most tourists and business travellers, yes, if your phone supports eSIM. Germany plans start at $3.49 for 2 GB, and you install the eSIM before you fly, so you have data when you land, without queuing for a tourist SIM at the airport. If your home plan already covers Germany at no extra cost, you may not need one.
Which networks do Germany eSIMs use?
Germany eSIMs on MobiMatter run on Vodafone, O2, Telekom.de, and O2 Germany. Every plan names its network, so you can choose the carrier you prefer before you buy.
Which eSIM is best for Germany?
Our best plan for Germany right now is 120 GB for 30 days at $49.99 from Bouygues. We rank plans on quality and value for money, and this one comes first in the list. If price per GB is all that matters, the lowest right now is $0.73 per GB, with 50 GB for 30 days.
How much data do I need for a week in Germany?
It depends on how you use your phone. Light use (maps, messaging, browsing) takes about 0.5–1 GB a day; scrolling a lot of social video can take 2–3 GB or more. Typical use per hour:
- Instagram Reels, TikTok: 0.3–1 GB
- YouTube, Netflix at standard quality: 0.5–1 GB
- Video calls (WhatsApp, FaceTime): 0.5–1 GB
- Voice calls (WhatsApp, FaceTime Audio): 50–70 MB
- Maps and navigation: 2–6 MB
- Messaging and browsing: 50–150 MB
The cheapest Germany plan with at least 5 GB for a week or longer is 5 GB for 30 days at $6.49.
Is there an unlimited data eSIM for Germany?
Yes. Unlimited data plans for Germany start at $7.99. Many unlimited plans slow down after a daily high-speed allowance, so check the fair-use terms on the plan page before you buy.
Do Germany eSIMs support 5G and hotspot?
5G is available on 30 plans for Germany, where the local network has 5G coverage; the others use 4G/LTE. Hotspot (tethering) works on every plan, so you can share your data with other devices.
Does a Germany eSIM come with a phone number?
Most travel eSIMs, including most Germany plans, are data-only and have no local number. You keep your usual number on your main SIM for calls, texts and WhatsApp. Plans that include a number or minutes say so on the plan page.
Will my phone work with a Germany eSIM?
Yes, if it supports eSIM and is not locked to a carrier. To check, dial *#06#: if an EID number appears, your phone supports eSIM. Most iPhones from the XS/XR on, Galaxy S20 and later and Pixel 3 and later do, except models sold in mainland China.
Can I keep my own SIM and WhatsApp while using a Germany eSIM?
Yes. Your eSIM and your main SIM can be active at the same time. Use the eSIM for mobile data with data roaming on for that line, and turn data roaming off on your home SIM to avoid charges. WhatsApp keeps working on your usual number.

What our customers say

I used it without any problems in France and Germany.

I used it smoothly and quickly in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Spain, and Bulgaria. Sparks connects to the most suitable network for your location at that moment, allowing for convenient use. Depending on your travel plans, annual options are very advantageous because it consumes very little internet data there, unlike in Türkiye.

I had an issue with my eSIM and the customer service team was amazing. Super responsive, patient and were able to resolve my issue. I was worried when my eSIM wasn’t working I would get ghosted, but within a few hours I was emailing back and forth with their support team.

I used it in Italy in 2024 and in Spain in 2026, and I was very satisfied. The app has improved day by day, and I never experienced any issues. I don't know about other apps, but I highly recommend MobiMatter. I bought 15GB of internet in Spain, and even though I didn't use that much, I still have 10GB left.

MobiMatters came highly recommended in family-oriented travel groups on social networks, when I was researching on travel eSIMs for Iceland. The first package I started with was a US + Europe - it was easy to activate before leaving home (and verifying), and then continue on landing in Reykjavik. Unthinkable speeds (given we are used to Verizon and TMobile in the US) - over 400 Mbps on the Fast app! Unlimited tethering options allowed me to use across my MacBook and phone, as well as share across the family with the kids on iPads and phones. Navigation on Google and Waze was aa breeze with the constant high speed data connectivity. Our plans did not support phones (we knew this) but with WhatsApp and FaceTime allowing audio and video calls we never felt the need for basic phone service. Customer service on email was responsive and helpful when I wanted to understand how top-ups work. Highly recommend MobiMatters - I’m on my third top-up as we speak!

I had a problem because I accidentally activated the wrong eSIM and couldn’t understand why my data wasn’t working. I contacted support, and they figured out the issue right away. They explained everything clearly and stayed helpful throughout the whole process. Their customer support is honestly 10/10—fast, friendly, and very knowledgeable. Everything worked perfectly once I activated the correct eSIM. Highly recommend both the service and the support team. Thank you!
