1. Which eSIM is best for Greece and the islands?

For Athens plus the Cyclades or Crete, pick a plan that lists all three Greek networks, such as 15 GB for 15 days at ⁦$12.99⁩. On a small island one operator's mast often covers the port and another covers the far beach, and a plan with all three lets the phone switch. Greece-only plans and Europe plans both do this; open a plan to see its network list before you pay.

2. How much does an eSIM for Greece cost?

Greece eSIMs start from ⁦$3.49⁩ for a small allowance, and 30 GB for 15 days at ⁦$19.99⁩ covers a month of heavy use. Every plan is prepaid, so there is no contract or monthly bill, and nothing renews unless you top up.

3. Do I need an eSIM for Greece, or can I use my UK, US or Canadian phone plan?

You can keep your home plan, but outside the EU you pay your carrier's roaming rate. The EU's roam-like-at-home rule covers SIMs from EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Moldova and Ukraine (Your Europe, European Commission). British, American, Canadian and Turkish SIMs are outside it, so a week on a daily roaming pass usually costs more than a Greece plan for the whole trip.

4. Does a Greece eSIM use Cosmote, Vodafone or Nova (Wind)?

Our Greece plans use Nova, Vodafone, and Cosmote, and the plan page names the operators each one can join. Greece has three mobile networks: Cosmote, Vodafone and Nova. A plan labelled "WIND" runs on Nova: Wind Hellas was bought by United Group, which named the merged company Nova in July 2022 (TelecomTalk), and Wind's mobile services switched to the Nova brand in January 2023 (Wind Hellas).

You don't need a Cosmote-branded SIM to use Cosmote's masts: most of our Greece plans list Cosmote and attach to it while roaming.

5. Can I get a Greece eSIM with a phone number?

Not with a Greek +30 number. As of October 2026, our plans for Greece are data-only, except a few Europe plans with unlimited calls that come with a French (+33) number, which the plan page states before checkout. WhatsApp, Viber and FaceTime calls run over mobile data, so you can still reach a taverna or a ferry agent without a local number.

6. How do I activate an eSIM in Greece instantly?

Install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi, then switch that line on and turn on data roaming for it when the plane lands at Athens or Heraklion. As of October 2026, most of our Greece plans start their validity on first data use, so installing a few days early costs nothing; a handful start on installation, and the plan page says which. Unused eSIMs on most plans expire two months after purchase.

7. Will my eSIM work on Greek ferries and the islands?

Yes in island towns and on most crossings within sight of land, where the ship stays in range of the same Greek masts your eSIM uses. On longer legs, such as Piraeus to Crete overnight or the run out to the Dodecanese, the signal can drop mid-sea, and some ships carry their own satellite-based mobile service.

Download ferry tickets and offline maps of the island before you board. Ferry Wi-Fi is often paid or slow once the ship is far from shore.

8. How much data do I need for 10 days island hopping in Greece?

Plan on about 15 GB for 10 days: our typical holiday day of maps, social apps, some video and a call or two uses 1.3 to 1.9 GB. Island hopping uses more than a city break, because beaches and ferry decks rarely have Wi-Fi and you check ferry times and the weather often. Set your own day and trip length in the estimator.

9. Can I use one eSIM for Greece and Turkey?

Only with a plan that lists Turkey, because Turkey is outside the EU and many Europe plans leave it out. As of October 2026, we have a Greece, Cyprus and Turkey plan family and several wider regional plans that cover both. The crossing is short: ferries from Rhodes reach Marmaris in about an hour, all year (Ferryhopper), and boats also run from Kos to Bodrum (Ferryhopper).

10. Can I use a European eSIM plan in Greece?

Yes. Europe plans start from ⁦$3.49⁩, and as of October 2026 Greece is on the country list of our Europe plans, usually with the same Greek networks as the Greece-only plans. Choose one if Greece is one stop of several, say Athens after Rome or before Dubrovnik. For Greece alone, a Greece-only plan is often a little cheaper per GB.

11. Is there an unlimited data eSIM for Greece?

Yes, on Europe-wide plans that cover Greece: the cheapest is unlimited data for 3 days at ⁦$7.99⁩, which suits a long weekend. For a longer stay, a large fixed plan such as 60 GB for 15 days at ⁦$33.99⁩ runs at full speed with no daily cap and allows hotspot, so working from a laptop on a villa terrace in Paros is fine until the allowance runs out.

12. Will I get Greece's 112 wildfire alerts on my phone?

Yes, if emergency alerts are switched on: Greek civil protection sends 112 messages to phones by location, and the UK Foreign Office tells visitors to turn the setting on (iPhone: Settings, Notifications, Emergency Alerts) and keep the phone with them (FCDO travel advice, checked October 2026).
