Frequently Asked Questions
What is the cheapest eSIM for DR Congo?
The cheapest DR Congo eSIM on MobiMatter costs $5.99 for 1 GB, valid for 7 days. Prices come live from 4 vetted providers and change often; the price on this page is the current one.
Is it worth getting an eSIM for DR Congo?
For most tourists and business travellers, yes, if your phone supports eSIM. DR Congo plans start at $5.99 for 1 GB, and you install the eSIM before you fly, so you have data when you land, without queuing for a tourist SIM at the airport. If your home plan already covers DR Congo at no extra cost, you may not need one.
Which networks do DR Congo eSIMs use?
DR Congo eSIMs on MobiMatter run on Airtel, Africell, and Vodacom. Every plan names its network, so you can choose the carrier you prefer before you buy.
Which eSIM is best for DR Congo?
Our best plan for DR Congo right now is 13 GB for 365 days at $41.99 from 3. We rank plans on quality and value for money, and this one comes first in the list. If price per GB is all that matters, the lowest right now is $2.88 per GB, with 26 GB for 365 days.
How much data do I need for a week in DR Congo?
It depends on how you use your phone. Light use (maps, messaging, browsing) takes about 0.5–1 GB a day; scrolling a lot of social video can take 2–3 GB or more. Typical use per hour:
- Instagram Reels, TikTok: 0.3–1 GB
- YouTube, Netflix at standard quality: 0.5–1 GB
- Video calls (WhatsApp, FaceTime): 0.5–1 GB
- Voice calls (WhatsApp, FaceTime Audio): 50–70 MB
- Maps and navigation: 2–6 MB
- Messaging and browsing: 50–150 MB
The cheapest DR Congo plan with at least 5 GB for a week or longer is 5 GB for 15 days at $18.99.
Do DR Congo eSIMs support 5G and hotspot?
DR Congo plans currently run on 4G/LTE. Hotspot (tethering) works on every plan, so you can share your data with other devices.
Does a DR Congo eSIM come with a phone number?
Most travel eSIMs, including most DR Congo plans, are data-only and have no local number. You keep your usual number on your main SIM for calls, texts and WhatsApp. Plans that include a number or minutes say so on the plan page.
Will my phone work with a DR Congo eSIM?
Yes, if it supports eSIM and is not locked to a carrier. To check, dial *#06#: if an EID number appears, your phone supports eSIM. Most iPhones from the XS/XR on, Galaxy S20 and later and Pixel 3 and later do, except models sold in mainland China.
Can I keep my own SIM and WhatsApp while using a DR Congo eSIM?
Yes. Your eSIM and your main SIM can be active at the same time. Use the eSIM for mobile data with data roaming on for that line, and turn data roaming off on your home SIM to avoid charges. WhatsApp keeps working on your usual number.

nice app. I used it during my travel in Spain last year and the internet speed was always good. I didn't have any issues. I now bought a package that covers both Portugal and Spain, as I am going there tomorrow.

I bought two esims for two different countries because mobimatter has affordable prices. I had an issue connecting the second esim. The helpdesk responded fast. It turns out I was using the first eSIM instead of the second. Thanks for good data in both countries and for responding fast!

I bought the eSIM for a holiday in Tibet. Everything was great; with the integrated VPN I was able to access all the sites that are normally blocked in China (Google, WhatsApp, etc.).
