What is the cheapest eSIM for Germany?
Germany is covered by multi-country plans only, and the cheapest is $3.49 for 2 GB, valid for 15 days. Prices come live from 7 vetted providers and change often; the price on this page is the current one.
Is it worth getting an eSIM for Germany?
For most travellers, yes, if your phone supports eSIM. Germany plans start at $3.49 for 2 GB, and the longest lasts 365 days, which suits long stays and repeat visits. If your home plan already covers Germany at no extra cost, you may not need one.
Which networks do Germany eSIMs use?
Germany eSIMs on MobiMatter run on Vodafone, O2, and Telekom; 5G plans are available on Vodafone, O2, and Telekom. Vodafone carries the most plans. Each plan names its network, so you choose your carrier before you buy.
Which eSIM is best for Germany?
No plan covers Germany alone right now, so the choice is a multi-country plan. The top one is 50 GB for 30 days at $36.49 from Sparks, covering 2 countries. We rank plans on quality and value for money. If price per GB is all that matters, the lowest right now is $0.67 per GB, with 30 GB for 15 days.
How much data do I need for a week in Germany?
It depends on how you use your phone. Light use (maps, messaging, browsing) takes about 0.5–1 GB a day; scrolling a lot of social video can take 2–3 GB or more. Typical use per hour:
- Instagram Reels, TikTok: 0.3–1 GB
- YouTube, Netflix at standard quality: 0.5–1 GB
- Video calls (WhatsApp, FaceTime): 0.5–1 GB
- Voice calls (WhatsApp, FaceTime Audio): 50–70 MB
- Maps and navigation: 2–6 MB
- Messaging and browsing: 50–150 MB
The cheapest Germany plan with at least 5 GB for a week or longer is 5 GB for 30 days at $6.49.
Is there an unlimited data eSIM for Germany?
Yes. Unlimited data plans for Germany start at $7.99. Many unlimited plans slow down after a daily high-speed allowance, so check the fair-use terms on the plan page before you buy.
Do Germany eSIMs support 5G and hotspot?
5G is available on 33 plans for Germany, where the local network has 5G coverage; the others use 4G/LTE. Hotspot (tethering) works on every plan, so you can share your data with other devices.
Does a Germany eSIM come with a phone number?
Most travel eSIMs, including most Germany plans, are data-only and have no local number. You keep your usual number on your main SIM for calls, texts and WhatsApp. Plans that include a number or minutes say so on the plan page.
Will my phone work with a Germany eSIM?
Yes, if it supports eSIM and is not locked to a carrier. To check, dial *#06#: if an EID number appears, your phone supports eSIM. Most iPhones from the XS/XR on, Galaxy S20 and later and Pixel 3 and later do, except most models sold in mainland China and some sold in Hong Kong and Macao.
Good to know
In Germany, prepaid mobile providers must check the customer's identity against an ID document under section 172 of the Telecommunications Act; the Bundesnetzagentur decides which other checking methods are allowed. This applies to German prepaid providers; travel eSIMs from foreign providers that roam on German networks are not affected by this check.

Mentions GermanyI used it smoothly and quickly in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Spain, and Bulgaria. Sparks connects to the most suitable network for your location at that moment, allowing for convenient use. Depending on your travel plans, annual options are very advantageous because it consumes very little internet data there, unlike in Türkiye.

nice app. I used it during my travel in Spain last year and the internet speed was always good. I didn't have any issues. I now bought a package that covers both Portugal and Spain, as I am going there tomorrow.

"Having 365-day packages is very good for me, I am a cabin crew member and I use it without any problems wherever I go. Sometimes it even works in places that are not on the list. I am very satisfied and will renew my package when it expires."

MobiMatters came highly recommended in family-oriented travel groups on social networks, when I was researching on travel eSIMs for Iceland. The first package I started with was a US + Europe - it was easy to activate before leaving home (and verifying), and then continue on landing in Reykjavik. Unthinkable speeds (given we are used to Verizon and TMobile in the US) - over 400 Mbps on the Fast app! Unlimited tethering options allowed me to use across my MacBook and phone, as well as share across the family with the kids on iPads and phones. Navigation on Google and Waze was aa breeze with the constant high speed data connectivity. Our plans did not support phones (we knew this) but with WhatsApp and FaceTime allowing audio and video calls we never felt the need for basic phone service. Customer service on email was responsive and helpful when I wanted to understand how top-ups work. Highly recommend MobiMatters - I’m on my third top-up as we speak!

I needed an eSIM for EU and non-EU counties for the same trip. They had one package at a great price that worked great in all location. The app was great as I was able to check my data balance, in real time, quickly and easily during my trip. Would definitely use MobiMatters again. Downloading the eSIM was quick and easy too. In addition, when I reached out to Customer Support on a minor account issue, they were very responsive and addressed my issue quickly and effectively.
