Since January 2026, phones brought into Egypt owe customs fees once used on an Egyptian SIM, but tourists are exempt for 90 days, and phones on a foreign roaming line are not charged. Yes, if roaming is switched on, but Egypt is outside the Europe roaming zones of UK networks, so you pay a daily fee or buy a pass unless your plan includes worldwide roaming. Three, for instance, puts Egypt in its Around the World Extra zone at £8 per 24 hours for customers who joined from 18 December 2025. Data used outside a pass can be very expensive, so check your carrier's app before you fly and compare the cost of your whole trip with the plans on this page.
